Chapter Fifteen

The next morning, Ellie strolled around the promenade deck before breakfast. Walking always helped her think, and when she’d woken up that morning her thoughts were tumbling around like mismatched socks in a dryer. She glanced down at the new badge hanging around her neck and felt a prickle of pride. At least one of her worries had been addressed. It looked just like her passenger badge, except that it had a blue stripe down the side denoting that she was a member of the crew. When she’d gotten back to her room after dinner and a friendly chat with Susanna and her friends, she’d found a note from Violet. It was scribbled on floral stationary, and Violet had shoved it beneath her door. It had said:

Ellie,

Sorry about the dramatics at dinner. I hope you realized I was putting on a show?

You were right, and I’m sorry. We’ll talk about your training later and get everything sorted. For now, stay focused on keeping your guests happy and you’ll do just fine. I promise! Let’s have fun with Animal-aoke, and together we’ll show corporate just how valuable a team member you are. Sleep well.
